Ndamukong Suh~Greatest Husker of All Time?

facebooktwitterreddit

I will try to write about former Huskers currently playing in the NFL pretty regularly on this site.

However, today’s post is about one man, and one man only. Ndamukong the Great. Suh got his first career interception in the NFL in his first victory as a member of the Detroit Lions. Here’s what it looked like…

This is a move many Husker fans recognize from his days as a Blackshirt…

I’ve never seen a defensive lineman with such an affinity for intercepting passes. The body control he displays is amazing for somebody with his size and strength. Four interceptions in his career at Nebraska and now his first as a professional.

And just for kicks lets have a look at his most memorable interception…

Poor little Quarterback didn’t stand a chance. Neither did Jake Delhomme….

So far, Suh has totaled 18 tackles and 3 sacks with the Lions. It’d be hard to find a naysayer on what the #2 overall pick has shown on the field as a rookie. All reports have been positive.

Sister site, www.sidelionreport.com, had this to say after ranking Suh as the Lions most important starter four games into the season…

"Ndamukong Suh: I know its four games into the season, but is he already the best defensive tackle in the NFL (at least this season)? If not, then how far is he?"

A man named Suh has superstar potential. The promise Suh is showing suggests he will be a top interior defensive lineman for years to come, if not already like the author here suggests. He is the favorite to win NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, and has his sights on a Pro Bowl this season. He might be the best defensive player in the league in a few years time if the extraordinary improvement he has shown from year to year continues.

So I ask…

Might The Ndominant One have a chance to be considered the greatest Conhusker of all time? If you include pro career into the equation, I think he would deserve his mention, with many of past Husker greats not finding too much success at the pro level (not that that should be considered degrading in any way, just making the statement for argument’s sake).

Pundits called him the greatest defensive lineman of the past 20 years (at the least) while in college. He became the first defensive player to win the AP Player of the Year Award. He was unanimously considered the best player in college for the 2009 season (yet didn’t win the joke of a heisman).

I would consider myself very fortunate for my timing in life matching up well with a player that could potentially enter the conversation of greatest Nebraska player of all time, given their history.

The reign of Ndamukong Suh. The reign of Ndamukong the Great.
