Larry the Cable Guy

When talking about famous Nebraska football fans, there are few celebrities that are as big a fan as Larry the Cable guy. The stand-up comedian, whose real name is Daniel Lawrence Whitney attended Nebraska back in his school days.

Yep, that’s right. Despite the fact that he plays a character that is known as kind of an idiot, he’s got an education. He’s also got a ton of money.

Not only has me made a ton of money from his comedy tour, he’s also given a ton of money to the University and he’s been around the athletic department ever since.

When you are thinking about celebrities that love the Nebraska football team, his name is going to come to mind more often than not. That’s why we’ve started the list off with him.

Some of the rest of the names on this list are going to shock you a bit but Larry the Cable Guy is the king of the Husker hill.

Adam DeVine

While Larry the Cable Guy might be one of the most famous Nebraska football fans around, Adam DeVine might be one of the most dedicated when it comes to celebrities.

Devine might have been born in Iowa, but he moved to Nebraska at the age of nine. It turns out that he moved to the state right when the Cornhuskers were winning their National Titles .

It was love at first sight for the young man and he’s been a Husker fan ever since. He even once wrote an article for Rolling Stone explaining why he loved the program so much.

If you haven’t heard of this young actor, you’re going to very soon. DeVine hit the mainstream when he started in Workaholics but that’s hardly his only big role. He’s also had a supporting, very funny turn in the Pitch Perfect movies and he starred in his very own Netflix original movie, When We First Met.

The funny man is an up and comer. That certainly can’t hurt the Nebraska football team as it tries to prove to the college football world that it’s relevant.

Andy Roddick

We’re not going to have a ton of former Husker athletes on the list, but Andy Roddick counts because he never played for the Nebraska football team.

Roddick did play tennis for the Cornhuskers and once he went pro, his career certainly took off. There was a time there, longer than people likely realize when he was one of the best players in the entire country.

He was also one of the best players in the entire world. It’s been well documented that once he went pro and left Lincoln behind, he was still a heck of a Cornhuskers fan.

We all know the old saying “once a Husker, always a Husker.” It turns out that Andy Roddick certainly believes in that particular adage.

There have been times when he’s even sported apparel that showed off his love of the Nebraska football team when he was “working.”

There have been more than a few times when Roddick was sporting a hat that showed that he was a Nebraska football fan. It’s never a bad thing to have one of the most recognizable professional athletes in the world being on your side.

There may not be a Nebraska football fan on this list that is more surprising than Chuck Liddell. It’s interesting that the MMA fighter would be drawn to the Cornhuskers because at first glance, it doesn’t appear there is any reason why he should be a Husker fan.

Liddell is one of the best MMA fighters in the history of the sport. There are few out there that are as good or as intimidating as Liddell.

That was especially true when he was at his peak. So just how does this MMA fighter, who hails from San Luis Obispo end up being a Husker fan?

How he managed to become a fan is still a bit of a mystery, but he’s definitely got Husker red running through his veins. Liddel even put his money where his fandom is.

The fighter was, at least at one time, part owner of two Lincoln area bars. Both of them are well known as Husker bars.

Chief among them was a local haunt known as the N’Zone. Not surprisingly for a pub with that name, it’s long been a haven for Husker fans during the season and offseason.

Clarence Thomas

The Nebraska football team has some powerful fans in its corner but there may not be one any moroe powerful than Clarence Thomas. The Supreme Court justice, and one of the only African American SCOTUS justices in the history of the country, is a massive Cornhusker fan.

Than fandom stems from his being born in Omaha but he’s carried his love of the Huskers to Washington. This isn’t just an assumption because Thomas is from Nebraska.

He once detailed just how much he loves the Cornhuskers to a local television station. “My shirts, my wardrobe is ‘N.’ My screensaver is Huskers,” he told KETV back in 2010.

While those statements might have been a while ago, it’s safe to assume that Thomas’ love for the program hasn’t changed. That’s true despite the tough times the team has had in the last few years.

Once a Husker, always a Husker applies to people who are even on the Supreme Court. Clarence Thomas is likely always going to be a very famous Nebraska football fan.

Gabrielle Union

When it comes to Hollywood elite, there are few actors that are bigger names and bigger Nebraska football fans than Gabrielle Union. The actor was born in Omaha just like Clarence Thomas and like the Supreme Court justice, she has carried her love of the Cornhuskers throughout her career.

That career is one that has been long and winding. Over the course of her time as an actor, she has appeared in 79 different movies and television shows.

Of the many that she’s best known for is Being Mary Jane and the recent movie Breaking In. This isn’t someone who just talks a good game about being a fan when it’s brought up to her.

This is someone who goes out of their way to make sure everyone she runs into knows she loves the Nebraska football team. She’s even made television talk show appearances where she has tried to convince other personalities they should get on board the Cornhuskers’ train.

Dwyane Wade

The basketball player best known as D-Wade didn’t come to Nebraska football fanhood because he attended school in the state or was born here. His fandom comes from the fact that he married one of the biggest Husker fans in the country.

Wade is the husband of Gabrielle Union. That doesn’t appear to mean he’s faking his love for the program.

There have been more than a few comments from the NBA star that can only mean he really has embraced the Huskers. Wade was even willing to lend his support on television when he and Union made an appearance at the Spring Game this year.

When it comes to guessing just who some of the biggest celebrities in the country are that are also Nebraska football fans, this guy’s name is probably on the tip of people’s tongues.

The Cornhuskers fans around the country always love to point to famous people who are will to spread the word through their fame. It certainly can’t hurt to have one of the best NBA players from this generation being a well known Nebraska football fan.

Matt Damon

Matt Damon is on the list of Nebraska football fans who are plenty famous for many of the same reasons that Dwyane Wade is. He didn’t stumble across a love of the Huskers because he has big ties to the Huskers.

He wasn’t born in Nebraska and didn’t grow up as a fan. He’s someone who came to like the Cornhuskers because a family member liked the Huskers first.

Back in 2013, his nephew was looking to not only attend UNL but also play for the Nebraska football team. Damon came to campus with his nephew much in the same way a parent might take a campus tour.

After seeing the campus and what the Cornhuskers have to offer both athletically and academically, it’s pretty clear he liked what they had to offer.

This isn’t a guy who is going to be touting the Nebraska football team to anyone he meets, but he’s made it clear that they are a college football team he roots for when he sees them on television.

Rush Limbaugh

When looking at this list, there are a few Nebraska football fans in the group that are going to raise some eyebrows. Clarence Thomas is definitely one.

Rush Limbaugh is likely going to surprise Cornhusker fans as well. The long time talk radio host is more than just a talk radio host.

He’s got millions of fans, who all tune in daily to hear him espouse his political views, usually those that tend to veer to the far right. Husker fans come in all shapes and sizes and even someone who follows politics as closely as Rush are known to be sports fans as well.

Limbaugh is a bit different from most sports fan politicos. When he was a younger man, he worked for the Kansas City Royals. He also had a stint on ESPN.

Even when he’s not working in the sports world, he’s still a fan. Limbaugh has been seen attending more than one Nebraska football game over the years.

He’s also made comments on his show that show he’s followed the program pretty closely. It’s a safe bet that if Scott Frost can bring the program back, we’ll be hearing Rush Limbaugh talk about the team more often.

Ok, this addition to the list of celebrity Nebraska football fans comes with a big of an asterisk. Taraji P Henson is one of the biggest names out there these days.

It turns out the actor also comes to Husker fandom in much the same way Wade and Damon have arrived. Henson recently posted an instagram picture of herself standing with Husker prospect Tyrik Henderson.

Henderson came and visited Lincoln during one of their Friday Night Lights camps. The really odd thing surrounding Henderson and Henson’s fandom is that it seems to have been based at least a bit on some false information or a misunderstanding.

Henson posted the Instagram message with the understanding that Henderson had committed to the Huskers. She even made a comment about being on the sidelines this fall.

It turns out that Henderson did not commit. It appears that the Nebraska football coaches were the ones who told him there wasn’t quite yet a scholarship offer for him in Lincoln.

That development is certainly one of the odder ones of this recruiting cycle, for any team. Here’s hoping Henson might have stumbled on Nebraska football fandom by accident but is going to realize that she really does love the Cornhuskers when all is said and done.
