Nebraska football has a new single reason record holder for reception yards. Trey Palmer came into the game against the Iowa Hawkeyes needing 127 yards to pass Stanley Morgan Jr’s 1,004-yard mark. Palmer notched 129 yards with about 10 minutes to go in the first half.

Trey Palmer, who announced that he woke up angrier than ever on Friday morning, came out red hot. The Nebraska football star scored the game’s first touchdown thanks to an 87-yard reception that put the Huskers up 7-0.

After the Nebraska football team went ahead 10-0, a fumble by backup Hawkeyes quarterback Alex Padilla allowed the Huskers to move into the redzone quickly. On 1st and 10 from the Iowa 18 yard line, quarterback Casey Thompson found Trey Palmer on an 18-yard touchdown that gave the receiver his second TD of the game and broke the single seasons’ record for yards.

The question now is by just how much will the LSU transfer end up eclipsing the record. There’s quite a bit of game left to play. There’s an entire second half as a matter of fact.

Of course, Iowa is well known for having a smothering offense and with Padilla taking over for Hawkeyes starting QB Nate Petras, it seems as if Kirk Ferentz’s squad will be looking to try and move the ball on the ground.

It’s worth noting that for a while, there was a chance that Trey Palmer was going to have a couple of records under his belt. He got off to a good enough start to the season that there were some chances that he might also beat out Marlon Lucky’s 75 catches in a season.

However, offensive struggles and an injury to Thompson derailed those hopes. However, the man who spent his first season in Lincoln this year has now put his stamp on the Nebraska football record books.
