This is a good development for Nebraska Football.

Allen Trieu of 247Sports is known for making accurate Crystal Ball Predictions, and this particular one favors Nebraska football. Trieu picked Nebraska ($) to land Ru’Quan Buckley.

Buckley is the is the 41st overall  lineman in his class, and the 19th overall player in the state of Michigan per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

This would be a huge commitment for Nebraska football. He is an explosive  lineman who can fire off the ball quickly. He would be a huge asset for the program.  They desperately need help on the line, and he can provide it. As soon as the ball snaps, he explodes with his hands and that allows him to have an upper hand on his matchup from the get-go. He is exactly the type of player Nebraska needs, especially with the mobile quarterbacks Nebraska has in the fold.

A commitment from Buckley would just add credence to the fact that Nebraska has made the offensive line a priority. Starting with Turner Corcoran, Nebraska has made an effort over the last couple of years to protect the quarterback. Last season, it was evident that they were heading in the right direction with recruiting the line.

The protection was abysmal.  Nebraska gave up 28 sacks on the season, and often did not give quarterback Adrian Martinez enough time to throw the football. Buckley would be able to fix that problem. Measuring in at 6-foot-6, 250 pounds, he would be able to help both in pass and run protection. Although he would not be coming in for another year or so, he would offer hope for the future.

It will be interesting to see how his commitment plays out. Hopefully, we see him in Lincoln on Saturdays. He seems like a hard-nosed, gritty player. That is exactly the type of team identity Nebraska football wants to bring to the table. Any offensive lineman is good with me, and this is a position where I wouldn’t mind Nebraska stockpiling for the future. This is a passing game nowadays, and anything that would favor the offensive side football is a plus.
