The Nebraska football team is entering the final weekend before the early signing period with two big targets visiting elsewhere.
The Nebraska football team has a rather big visit weekend on tap. While Scott Frost and company will be keeping an eye on those visitors, there are a couple of big targets that are looking elsewhere this weekend.
One of the recruits that is visiting Tennessee this weekend is actually a Husker commit. The other is a running back that the school badly wants. The two visits sort of ramp up what has become an interesting rivalry between two schools who really haven’t had much to do with each other over the years.
The Volunteers and Huskers are in similar situations this year, as both are breaking in a new head coach. While the Cornhuskers are energized that they got the coaching target they had their eyes on all along, Tennessee has had to do some damage control.
It appears that damage control has been fairly effective if you look at the talent giving the Vols a look this weekend. The two big time Husker targets that are visiting don’t include another player NU wants pretty badly that was scheduled to visit the SEC school this weekend.
Jeremy Webb had planned to head to Knoxville, but he ended up changing his plans. No explanation was given, other than he wanted to stay with his family.
Nebraska football fans have no problem with the four-star defensive back not taking the trip. Do they have anything to worry about as far as two JUCO prospects from Arizona Western heading to the deep south over the weekend?
Does Nebraska football have reason to worry about Jaron Woodyard?
The Nebraska football team got a commit for speedster Jaron Woodyard just earlier this week. Despite that commitment, he is one of the two Husker targets that is visiting Knoxville.
The good news is that Woodyard has alluded to the fact that this is just a trip to see another school. The bad news is that doesn’t mean he’s immune from changing his mind.
This is the risk that the brand new Cornhusker staff runs. Woodyard does not have a long-standing relationship with Nebraska. He wasn’t even offered a scholarship from the team until a few weeks ago.

No one could blame him if he decided that he’d rather go elsewhere. While Cornhusker fans hope they can keep him in the fold for the next five days, there’s always the chance he could change his mind.
It doesn’t help that Woodyard’s teammate is visiting with him. That teammate, is the other Husker target in Tennessee.
While there have been some who thought Woodyard committing to the Huskers could be a way to get his teammate as well, what if the reverse happens? What if Woodyard ends up getting drawn away from the Nebraska football team because he decides he wants to be a package deal with his JUCO teammate?
Nebraska football could use a back like Greg Bell
When the Nebraska football team first offered Arizona Western running back Greg Bell, it seemed like he might be a Husker shoo-in. As the week has gone on, it’s clear the back is enjoying the recruiting process but is also playing it close to the vest.
Having run for over 1,200 yards at Arizona Western this past season, Scott Frost and company have been very interested in getting him to Lincoln. Bell faces the enviable task of winning a starting job over returning players.
Neither Tre Bryant, Devine Ozigbo or Mikale Wilbon did quite enough in 2017 to guarantee they would be the starters next year. While it’s a bit surprising the team is recruiting a JUCO back in this class, it’s apparent the Huskers are looking to reload talent quickly.

Many had hoped Woodyard’s commitment would draw Bell into the mix as well. The fear now is that Bell will like what he sees at Tennessee more and yank Woodyard the other way.
Neither player has said the situation has to be a package deal. It’s still interesting to see teammates take more than one official visit together.
It appears there is enough of a bond there that the Husker fans should worry about what could happen. The good news, for Nebraska football fans is that both players are expected to sign with someone next Wednesday. Crossing your fingers couldn’t hurt.
