The Nebraska Basketball alum has been making some noise.

Isaiah Roby is turning heads as he takes part in the NBA Combine in Chicago. To be honest, I am a bit surprised seeing how many thought Roby wasn’t ready for the pro game, myself included. Nevertheless, Roby has soldiered on and has gotten the attention of some of the best basketball analysts in the country.

In his analysis of the first day of the Combine, Jay Bilas of ESPN gave a great review of Roby. It is encouraging to hear that he is getting national attention, as I thought he was one of the more important players for the Nebraska Basketball team. There were tough stretches last season, and Roby was a stabilizing force through them all.

Roby put up impressive numbers in his first Combine scrimmage as he recorded 10 points five rebounds and three blocks in 21 minutes of play. In addition to impressing analysts, he also seems to be grabbing the attention of NBA teams. He has met with Houston, Miami, Phoenix, Toronto, and Golden State. Perhaps the most intriguing of those teams would be Phoenix, as they hold the sixth overall pick and pick No. 32.

"“I think he showed why he’s a very good prospect in this year’s draft,” Bilas said during ESPN’s coverage. “(Roby is) probably a top second-round pick, maybe he can sneak into the first round.”"

This is great to hear. Like I said, I wasn’t necessarily convinced that Roby was ready for the professional game. I still think he could polish his shooting a little bit, something that would help him in the NBA. More and more, teams are looking for shooters. However, it appears he is ready to take on the challenge of professional basketball and I certainly wish him the best of luck. If Roby succeeds in the NBA or even lands on a roster, that could definitely help the recruiting pitches for the program moving forward.

I think it’s safe to say he is not coming back to the program. Between all the commitments this week, and his work at the Combine, now is perhaps the best time to go to the professional ranks. I certainly am excited to see how this process plays out for him, and I certainly see him getting drafted. This would be a nice continuation of a basketball career that has been extremely successful to this point. I  am rooting for him, and I hope he can find success.
