Nebraska football coach Scott Frost has the Huskers on the rise and part of his mission is to take the program back to what made it strong in the first place.

Scott Frost was the perfect hire for Nebraska football. Looking back just a year, you can see it was a match made in heaven and the young coach showed more reasons why this week.

The reality is that the Nebraska football program belongs to the people of Nebraska. To be sure, there are fans all over the country and probably all over the world for that matter. But the Huskers mean something really special in Nebraska.

So when coach Frost took the time to visit some smaller communities in the state, places like the Columbus area where he visited three local high schools last week, it meant a lot to people.

Frost was reportedly on his way to visit another recruit but the fact that he decided to step in meant to a lot to those schools and the high school coaches he visited. It’s not something past head coaches have done but it’s definitely something Tom Osborne would do.

And more and more, I see Osborne in Frost. They were both humble geniuses. There is no doubt that Frost is one of the top offensive minds in the country. That’s why there were more schools than just Nebraska after his services. But he has something invested in the state of Nebraska and establishing that relationship is important.

It might not seem that way to some fans because Nebraska probably isn’t going to sign any big-name recruits from Columbus, Nebraska anytime soon. Yet, if a good player does ever emerge from those schools, Frost is going to get him and there’s a good chance some of those schools could produce some pretty solid walk-ons too.

Walk-ons can be a key part of Nebraska football’s future and Frost understands that. He also understands what the Huskers mean to Nebraska because he’s from there and that more than anything is why he’s back.

You can bet that Frost wants to turn this thing around more than anyone. He has a vested interest in it. He played quarterback for a national championship team and he did it under the legendary Osborne.

Now, he is using the same coaches playbook (not literally) to try and build the Huskers back into a national power and after just a short amount of time, it already appears to be working.
