Kurt Warner thinks Nebraska football has “everything going for it.”

When it comes to Nebraska football and how you measure success in 2018, Kurt Warner has some words of warning. The Hall of Fame quarterback sat down with former Blackshirt Adam Carriker for an interview on the Carriker chronicles and was clear that wins and losses aren’t a great measuring stick this season.

Carriker put Warner “on the spot” and asked the Super Bowl winner how he thought the Cornhuskers were going to do in 2018. Warner, whose son Kade is a wide receiver for the Huskers, first said he didn’t have any idea what the record would be because he hadn’t studied the schedule.

He then went on to say that he had a different way of determining success in a tough Big Ten conference.

"” I have always felt that success is determined by competitiveness. How competitive are you in the conference? Wins and losses aside, when you’re in those tough games and you see the team making strides and you see the talent is there but maybe you just have to learn how to win and make crucial plays at the end of games, that to me is a successful season.”"

Warner went on to say that when you are playing Michigan, and Michigan State and Ohio State, it’s more about looking at the product on the field than looking at the wins and losses.

Those are wise words from someone who clearly understands winning at the highest level of football. There are quite a few fans out there who seem to think anything less than eight wins this year is going to be a bad season.

With the kind of schedule the Nebraska football team is facing this season, judging on whether or not Scott Frost and his staff are doing a good job is likely going to need other metrics. A team that looks like it’s in the game every week and improving from one game to the next will be the best metric in 2018.
