The Big Ten Network recently laid out its ranking of who it feels are the top quarterbacks in the conference.

This isn’t an exhaustive 14 man list by any stretch of the imagination. There are only seven quarterbacks detailed but that’s likely because the network doesn’t think number eight through 14 are really worth talking about.

Some of the guys on this list and where they are is likely not going to surprise those who have been paying attention. On the other hand there are plenty of people who might be a bit surprised to find that Tommy Armstrong is the network’s prediction for the third best in the entire Big Ten.

There are plenty of Husker fans that believe Tommy Armstrong simply isn’t that good a quarterback. We here at Husker Corner believe there is a chance (as outside as it might be) that he could actually compete for the Heisman.

The Big Ten Network isn’t going quite that far, but they do believe Tommy is going to make some noise this year as one of the best quarterbacks in the conference. Just ahead of Armstrong is C.J. Beathard from Iowa and J.T. Barrett from Ohio State.

That means that BTN believes Armstrong is slated for a better season than quarterbacks for teams like Michigan and Northwestern. He’s even finishing in this ranking higher than Minnesota’s Mitch Leidner. That’s a bit surprising when you consider just how maligned the Husker quarterback was towards the end of the year.

There are also plenty of Nebraska football fans who were hoping that incoming freshman quarterback Patrick O’Brien would be able to unseat the senior QB and start for NU as a true freshman. It appears as though the Big Ten Network doesn’t believe something like that is needed. It’s certainly going to be interesting to see just howe accurate these predictions end up being once the season gets underway.
