Optimism is filling the air around the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ program as more players recover from their nagging fall camp injuries. According to Nebraska.247sports.com, the Huskers’ Brandon Reilly return to the gridiron is a fascinating asset to the offense.

Throughout camp, the junior wide receiver dealt with a hamstring injury, but returned to the field on Monday. Due to suffering from the same condition last season, the coaching staff felt it was wise to rest Reilly early. As long as he’s at his peak by Saturday’s contest against BYU, the offense should be running on all cylinders. After his first practice in weeks, Reilly didn’t have any setbacks, so he was ready to perform during Tuesday’s session. To say the least, his thoughts on practice were promising.

“Really good,” Reilly said. “I felt good yesterday, but really good today. It was a good day, and I’m really looking forward to Saturday.

There’s plenty of reasons why Reilly is so excited about the BYU game. Prior to Monday’s practice, he was listed at the top of the depth chart, and he’s finally receiving his chance to show the type of receiver he can become. Therefore, his health is a key ingredient to the Huskers’ success.

Citing numbers alone, Reilly doesn’t have the stats to excite the country. However, his ability should be on full display in 2015. Due to injury, Reilly only caught six passes for 85 yards last season, but he has the speed to get behind the defense in Mike Riley’s system. As 247sports.com notes, Reilly has the opportunity to be a “major contributor” for the Cornhusker offense.

“As I was battling and coming back, a couple times I was running and I could feel it wasn’t 100 percent,” Reilly said. “I just stopped, waited a few days and rehabbed hard and I think it was a little over two weeks and now I feel 100 percent.”

De’Mornay Pierson-El is out due to foot injury

With De’Mornay Pierson-El out of the lineup, Reilly is not a luxury for Tommy Armstrong and the passing game. He has to be a factor, while giving the Huskers’ consistent play in the new offense.  In addition, Nebraska has plenty of receivers eager to step up and make plays for the Cornhuskers. It’s one of the reasons why they can be a dominant unit this season. Along with Reilly, Taariq Allen and Sam Burtch missed time due to injury. However, they came back to practice in time to give the Huskers a full complement of targets.

If there was any worry about the timing with Armstrong, Reilly puts the concern to rest as well. The duo has been working together since the spring, and Reilly states, “Right now, I come out of a break, the ball is there. The timing is great. I’m looking forward to Saturday.”

Reilly, you’re not the only one patiently awaiting Saturday’s arrival.
