Huskers v Creighton: Tuesday 6:30

Normally I would be a little nervous there would be a let down after a BIG series win — make that a SWEEP against 16th ranked Texas. But the now 18th ranked Huskers play against Creighton Tuesday night at 6:30. This game always brings energy to whichever ballpark is involved and Coach Erstad will have his group ready to go.

Tanner Lubach is back in the “swing” of things after starting the year 0 for 18, he now boasts a .324 average. Austin Darby is 3 hits away from the 200 club, and 2 RBIs from the 100 career club. Sounds like the “1 though 9 grind” theory Erstad has instilled in the players is working.

Creighton comes to town riding a 7 out of the last 11 win streak. To be totally honest, they are 15-7 and had to cancel 4 games already this season. They haven’t even started conference play yet either.

They aren’t slacking on the bat production as they have 5 players on the roster hitting over .300. Junior Reagan Fowler was this week’s Big East Player of the Week having 7 RBIs and 7 hits after the weekend series with Stetson. He leads the team with a .370 batting average in 81 at bats. He has 7 doubles and 1 triple.

Harrison Crawford is next with .320 average in 75 at bats. he has 24 hits with 3 doubles and 3 triples so it’s safe to say he has some speed to go along with his bat. Brett Murray also has a good stick with an average of .314 in 86 at bats. He has 4 doubles, 2 triples and 2 homeruns. Nebraska will need to pay attention when they enter the box.

The Bluejays will look to Sophomore Jeff Albrecht who has pitched 20 innings issuing 13 Ks but also 8 walks. He pitched against Nebraska last year as well in a no decision. He currently has a 1.80 ERA. The blue birds then fly to D.C. to play Georgetown this weekend so they may be holding back their best for that series.

Good news for BIG RED is that they have Freshman Garret King available for the midweek start and Hohensee looked good with a couple innings of relief this weekend. King looked good in his 5 innings of work against Cal State Fullerton in the win.

I’m looking forward to a good, competitive game and a rowdy crowd at Hawks Field. Looking forward to watching Nebraska win this one too. After that they go to Omaha to take on the Mavericks Wednesday. GO BIG RED!!
