Huskers drive the Longhorns out with a BROOM as they sweep Texas!

Sunday afternoon at Hawks Field in the sunshine and warmer temps provided the opportunity for the Huskers to sweep Texas, 2-6!

Husker Derek Burkamper up against the Longhorns. He throws harder than Sinclair and Kubat so it was hard for Texas to be able to produce anything offensively. Hollingsworth started the game for Texas and was replaced in the 3rd by Duke and then a host of other pitchers.

Blake Headley doubled early in the 1st to score Jake Schleppenbach. Last night’s star, Austin Darby hit an RBI single for the Huskers finishing the inning up 2-0. A 2-out rally in the 3rd, and 6 hits in a row scored 4 more runs for Big Red to put them up 0-6. Elijah Dilday with an RBI double in that effort. Huskers kept up the hits and everyone contributed. Get the full stat sheet here.

Husker bats with 2 hits were Jake Schleppenbach, Headley, Tanner Lubach, Darby, Dilday and Wes Edrington. Boldt, Headley and Didlay with the doubles. BOOM!

Dilday getting in some substantial action this weekend and made some great catches in left field today. He’s a solid backup in the ever changing Erstad lineup. He’s got a great swing and fast bat speed. It never hurts to have a bunch of good outfielders.

Burkamper started the 9th inning at 90 pitches and a career high 6Ks. He wasn’t able to get out of the 9th before Connor Shaw hit a 2RBI homer which prompted bringing in Josh Roeder to finish up. He was the benefactor of a double play to SWEEP the Longhorns!

More from Husker Corner

Once again the pitching for the Big Red allowed them to keep Texas at the short end of the bat. It was a HUGE win against 16th ranked Texas (D1Baeball). It is something that can keep their momentum going forward.

Huskers have a midweek game Tuesday against in state rival Creighton. First pitch at 6:35. GO BIG RED!!!
