Husker Wrestling: Day 2 Mat Madness

In another grueling day of all day grappling, all 9 Huskers started the day in search of the prize. No matter how they finished, they are ALL our CHAMPIONS! I don’t think there’s any more physically exhausting individual sport than wrestling. Especially when you have to do it all day long. Our first rounds were reported upon yesterday.

Winners Bracket: Quarter Finals

141 – #9 Anthony Abidin matched up against #1 Logan Steiber (26-0) in the 1st match and lost by technical fall 16- 1. He will compete in round 530 later tonight.

157 – #4 James Green took on Mitchell Minotti (LEH) in round 358 and won a major decision 12-4 and headed to Semi-Finals in round 509 against #1 Martinez (ILL). Green won all 3 matches up through that round by bonus points.

174 – #1 Robert Kokesh wrestled against #8 Tyler Wilps (PITT) in round 365. He lost a close decision 3-2, his first loss of the season. He competes in round 546 later tonight.

Wrestleback Bracket:

125 – Tim Lambert competed against Conor Youtsey from Michigan and was defeated 10-7. He finished the season with a 26-12 record. and 50-25 on his career. Lambert is a sophomore.

133 – Eric Montoya faced Zane Richards from Illinois and won 10-1 in a major decision. He next competed in round 467 against Johnni DiJulios (OHST) and won 7.4. Up next: round 527 later tonight.

165 – Austin Wilson matched up against Harrison Hightower (OHIO) and went into overtime where he lost 5-3 and was eliminated.

184 – Tim Dudley wrestled Brett Harner (Princeton) and pinned him to advance to round 492. He met up with #10 Lorenzo Thomas (PENN) and won 17-5. Next up: round 552 later tonight.

197 – Aaron Studebaker competed against Scottie Boykin (CHAT) and pinned his opponent advancing to round 493. He battled # 9 Jace Bennett (CORN) and pinned him for the win! Up next: round 553 later tonight.

HVY – Collin Jensen battled against Denzel Dejournett (APST) and won a 3-1 decision advancing to round 499. He faced #3 Bobby Telford (IOWA) and was eliminated 9-2.

Congratulations to those advancing and we couldn’t be prouder of ALL those who were competing. There are plenty of wrestlers who would swap shoes with them to have even qualified for the tournament. Wear RED, be Proud! GO BIG RED!
