After a week off, the Nebraska bowling team was anxious to get back on the lanes for some competition. They traveled down to Kansas City, KS to participate in the Central Missouri Invitational Tournament. While the snow came down outside, the Husker bowlers were smashing the pins inside. At the end of the three-day event, the Huskers easily won their 5th regular season tournament with a 11-1 record.

The highlight of Saturday’s competition was Husker junior Melanie Crawford. The Texas native rolled a perfect 300 game. It was the second time she has rolled a 300 game in her bowling career, and it is her favorite moment to date. “It was by far the most unforgettable moment of my collegiate career, especially to turn around and have all nine of my other teammates right behind me during every shot,” Crawford said. “After the last ball they all came up and hugged me on the approach. Definitely something I will never forget.”

It was an all-around team effort for the NTCA No.1-rated Cornhuskers across the three-day-tournament. Huskers senior Liz Kuhlkin and sophomore Gazmine Mason were selected to the all-tournament team. Nebraska was led by Kuhlkin, the senior from New York, who placed 1st in the individual standings with a weekend average of 234.33 and a high score of 266. Mason, the sophomore from Rhode Island, placed 5th overall in the competition with a 209.00 average and a high game of 268.

“In general, it was a great performance by the Huskers, they made a lot of good shots—especially when they counted,” Husker bowling coach Bill Straub said. “Right now the team is doing really well, which means even if the lanes do not suit how we play, the team is really good right now and they should be ok.”

The Nebraska bowling team heads to the Music City Classic in Nashville, Tenn. March 6-8. It will be the Huskers last regular season tournament of 2015. Their final action of the season will come in April at the NCAA tournament in St.Louis, MO. This team would dearly love to hoist a national championship trophy once again. Stay tuned for further updates and as always, GO BIG RED!!
