Friday Night Lights: Husker Style

Friday Night Lights is coming to Nebraska. No I don’t mean the cancelled television series revived, what I am talking about is affordable football camps that should attract a large amount of kids from Nebraska and the surrounding states. Husker head coach Mike Riley announced his camp schedule for this summer. It is more kid friendly than it has been in recent years and this should mean that there will be many more kids to sample a taste of the Husker Experience.

In the past, Husker football camps have cost upward of $400 per recruit. Coach Riley has changed this and the Huskers will now offer $50 camps for recruits. I guess Coach Riley really does want to own the 500 mile radius! And at a $50 price tag. Offensive and defensive linemen will report to camp on June 1 and June 8, for a three hour secession. The rest of the positions will have camps on June 2 and June 9, for 3-hour sessions. Special teams: Kickers, punters, and long snappers will report to camps on June 5 and June 12, for an hour and half session, but these two camps will only be $30 for recruits.

The Friday Night Light Camps will be the Cream-of-the-Crop of the summer football camps. There is a prerequisite to attend the Friday Night Light Camps, the recruits must be starters and/or high level recruits. With the $50 price, these camps will hopefully draw in some big time recruits so they can see what the Huskers are all about. These two camps will be for three hours and will run from 6-9 pm on June 6 and June 13 and they will also coincide with the two sessions of the Big Red Weekend recruiting camps which will also be three hour camps and affordable as well.

And just when you thought ‘how could Mike Riley make this better?’, well even the youngins get a chance to partake in Husker football camps. There will be two sessions for kids from 3rd to 8th grade, at a cost of $100 per camper. The sessions will run from 9 am to noon, on June 3-4, and June 10-11. These camps give the little Huskers a chance to see what it is like to perform under the Husker coaches, and will hopefully make them lifelong Husker fans.

And don’t forget about Coach Riley’s satellite camps he plans on holding out of state in several different locations. The dates and locations for these camps have not been announced yet, but it will hopefully generate excitement in these other states giving out of state recruits who cannot afford a trip to Lincoln to also get a taste of the Huskers. And for you coaches out there, the Big Red Coaches clinic will be April 4th.

Coach Riley is making a splash with Husker fans and the way he is structuring his summer football camps will excite Husker fans and recruits alike. Look for huge turnouts at this summers camps and hopefully some big time recruits committing to Lincoln. Go Big Red!!!
