Make it 8 wins in a row now for the Husker Volleyball team who are 20-7 overall and 14-4 in the Big Ten. Lady Huskers are finishing the season strong as they make a statement to the rest of the Big Ten teams. The Huskers face two tough opponents on the road but have the opportunity to finish the season with 10 straight wins before post season.

Two other Huskers claimed Big Ten honors on Monday. Sophomore Outside Hitter Amber Rolfzen was named the Big Ten Player of the Week with her .395 hitting percentage for the week and 12 blocks. This is Rolfzen’s third conference award. The Huskers also claim the honor of Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, with Junior Middle Blocker Cecilia Hall’s 13 blocks performance against the Wolverines. This is Hall’s second time she has been named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.

Saturday night’s game was Senior Night and the Huskers only have to say goodbye to one senior player. Mary Pollmiller, senior setter and team captain, played in her last regular season home game as a Husker. Pollmiller is ranked 4th nationally among active division one setters for career assists.

The Littleton, Colorado, native came to the Huskers by way of the University of Tennessee. Pollmiller was excited to play at Tennessee. The Vols’ assistant coach was a national champion and a former Husker, but before the start of her freshman season, Asst. Coach Dani Busboom took a position back in her home state of Nebraska. Pollmiller had interest in playing for Nebraska but setter Lauren Cook had transferred from UCLA to play for her father causing Pollmiller to choose Tennessee. As a freshman at Tennessee, Pollmiller earned the SEC freshman setter of the year award.

Pollmiller has been a tremendous leader for the Husker Volleyball team. In 2013 she was listed as the Big 10 Setter of the Week a total of 4 times. She won the award again November 3rd this year with her dominating performances against Rutgers and Maryland.

Husker nation will miss you #16! Thank you for leading our team!

Back home Saturday night the Huskers faced the Michigan Wolverines once again. In their last meeting the Wolverines swept the Huskers in Ann Arbor but this time it was the Huskers that would do a little sweeping of their own, as Huskers won 25-23, 25-20, and 25-21. Junior middle blocker Cecilia Hall dominated the net with a Big Ten season high, 13 blocks, while Amber Rolfzen had 12 blocks of her own, and the Huskers finished the match with 30 blocks. For her final home regular season game, senior setter Mary Pollmiller ended the night with 33 assists, 3 kills, and 5 digs. Kadie Rolfzen led the team in kills with 13 while Kelsey Fien had 11 kills. The Huskers out hit the Wolverines .262 to .174.

Huskers finish the season with two away games against ranked opponents, but they certainly have momentum on their side. The ladies swapped places with Illinois in new AVCA volleyball poll as the Huskers moved up to 10th. Both teams are tied for third place in the Big Ten at 14-4 in conference play. Earlier in the season Nebraska lost to Illinois in Lincoln 1 game to 3.

Illini game is Wednesday, November 26, at 7 pm CST. Saturday, November 29, at 7:30 pm, the Huskers will face #4 Penn State. The Huskers defeated the Nittany Lions in Lincoln back in October.
