Never play Texas Hold ‘Em with Nebraska basketball coach Tim Miles. He only holds two open scholarships for the upcoming season, but heck if I can tell what his next move is. I’d wager I’m not alone.
What I do know is that while the Huskers have fallen just short with recruits, they’re still in some transfer battles. One of those is for Andrew White III. It’d been rumored that the former Kansas Jayhawk had interest in Nebraska, but then radio silence set in.
Finally, word comes out that not only is White interested in what the Big Red has to offer, he’s going to take Lincoln in himself. Should he decide to spurn Jayhawk blue for Husker scarlet, Miles would have a solid answer to the question “What if Terran Petteway decides to leave early?”
Even better, the 6’6″ 210-pound guard offers a similar size to Petteway. Should he decide to transfer, the mandatory year he’d have to sit out gives White the opportunity to learn from the man himself. Both Petteway and former Florida Gator Walter Pitchford are excellent examples of transfers who’ve flourished under his system.
There’s an added element of interest in White’s recruitment. During his time at Georgetown, Nebraska assistant Kenya Hunter was assigned to bring White to the Hoyas.
While that obviously didn’t go as planned, their existing relationship may play a major role in White’s eventual decision.
Allegedly Florida State, Maryland, Miami (FL), Notre Dame, Richmond,VCU and Wake Forest all have interest in White, but who he’s favoring is anyone’s guess at this point.
Following Nebraska football’s recent transfer swerve, maybe Miles has something up his sleeve to give Big Red basketball fans something to cheer about.
