Cross was originally known as the bruising goal line back brought in to put six up on the scoreboard. During his underclassman years he scored a combined 17 touchdowns, primarily as a bulldozer with the occasional rumble for 30-40 yards.

Watching him this spring, it seems he’s evolved. What’s worse for a defense than a 6’1″ 230-pound running back? One that’s faster and more agile.

Cross ran for 100 yards and two touchdowns against the first string defense during the annual Red-White Spring Game. Those 100 included runs that could be pulled off by backs about 10-15 pounds lighter.

2014 sets up for Cross to earn an unofficial fourth star as he’ll tag team with Ameer Abdullah when it comes to pummeling defenses on the ground.
