The Nebraska football recruiting staff has apparently dipped its toe back into the quarterback recruiting pool. Much like we saw earlier in the cycle, it appears to be swinging for the fences.
Moreno Valley, CA’s Sheriron Jones has had a Nebraska offer since February, but the relationship has truly sparked. Reportedly, Jones and Nebraska’s recent transfer Damore’ea Stringfellow have a very tight-knit relationship.
Obviously, the idea of the two crushing Big Ten secondaries may piqué Jones’ interest at the very least. The 6′ 2.5″ 192-pound quarterback is ranked as the No. 7 dual-threat quarterback overall, No. 28 in-state prospect and No. 220 prospect overall. Jones also recently received an invite to the highly esteemed Elite 11 camp.
It’ll be a challenge for Tim Beck to reel him in if the Huskers are truly making a hard run at him. He holds a Florida offer which is where several analysts believe he’d end up if the process ended today.
What does this mean for current quarterback commitment Kevin Dillman?
Considering that the Huskers aren’t just after Jones as a potential addition to the quarterback depth chart, being as a signal-caller under Bo Pelini may not be a lock. Nebraska just offered dual-threat quarterback Jason Pellerin out of New Iberia, LA along with potentially working with Jones.
Ultimately, it could may boil down to if the Nebraska football recruiting staff feels comfortable with Dillman’s current injury status. If not, Nebraska likely tries to make Jones an offer he can’t refuse.
