With recent news that former Nebraska Cornhuskers quarterback Taylor Martinez failed his physical with the Philadelphia Eagles, what might be in store for the recent college graduate?
Martinez passed for over 7,200 yards and 56 touchdowns while dealing damage to opposing defenses on the ground. He had close to 3,000 yards on and 31 rushing touchdowns thanks to his feet.
Unfortunately, his senior year was cut short due to a nagging injury, the same of which cost him his contract with the Eagles.
Football might not be in the immediate future for the former Husker quarterback, but it’s a known fact that he has experience with designing apps for cell phones. His most recent app known as Wobble Wobble continues to be a popular choice for smartphone owners.
I checked out the reviews for Martinez’s latest creation and it seemed to garner overall high praise from users who said it was simple, but fun.
If he does decide to attempt a comeback, he wouldn’t necessarily have to rely on the NFL. There are several other leagues that would welcome Martinez and probably even let him play quarterback.
Had Martinez made the Eagles’ roster, he more than likely would have been lining up as a wide receiver or defensive back.
Some other options for his future are the Arena Football League, Canadian Football League, and United Football League. These may not sound like ideal landing spots, but several former NFL players and big college names have grabbed the spotlight in these different leagues.
While a future in the NFL may not be in the cards for Martinez right now, perhaps we see him attempt a comeback after his surgery. If not, he’s clearly passionate about app design and could always turn to that as a backup plan. Who knows? Nebraska may have churned out a video game developing superstar that played quarterback.
