It was bad enough when Nebraska baseball (26-16, 8-4 Big Ten) had one loss to Northwestern (10-25, 4-10 Big Ten) on its schedule results.
A second came in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader making the Big Red’s resume look rather sickly. Fortunately, the Huskers were able to leap back from an 8-2 deficit in the second game of the day and rally for a 10-9 win.
Nebraska pitching was solid throughout the series, but unfortunately the bats didn’t wake up as they had earlier in the week. The exception came in the form of Blake Headley in Saturday’s second game. Headly went 3-for-3 and recorded three RBIs helping the Huskers score seven unanswered runs when down six.
The Huskers are done for the weekend, sitting at No. 3 in the conference standings behind Indiana (24-11, 10-1 Big Ten) and Illinois (20-14, 8-3 Big Ten) following Saturday’s action. Nebraska’s next opponent, Michigan (17-21-1, 7-7 Big Ten), is tied for the No. 4 spot with Penn State.
We’ll have a full wrap up of where Nebraska baseball sits following the end of action tomorrow.
