Darin Erstad’s Nebraska baseball team (23-14, 7-2 Big Ten) needed to assert itself in conference play and that’s just what it did against Minnesota (17-14, 5-7 Big Ten).
Once Steven Reveles nailed a two-out RBI single in the tenth and the Big Red shut down the Gophers’ dreams of a comeback, the Huskers took a 3-2 victory and a series sweep. That makes the second conference sweep in a row after plunking Ohio State.
The win puts the Huskers second in the conference standings behind Indiana (21-11, 8-1 Big Ten).
Before Nebraska takes to the field against a conference foe again, they begin a five-game homestand ready to get revenge against Kansas State. The Wildcats haven’t been kind to the Huskers this season handing out two impressive defeats. UNO will then face Nebraska for the first of two meetings this season before Erstad’s crew takes on another bunch of purple Wildcats.
Nebraska baseball should be able to tally a third-straight sweep of the season once the Northwestern series is done. After briefly climbing out of the conference cellar, the Wildcats sit at 2-9 in conference (6-24 overall).
Nebraska may be a long shot to make it to Omaha in a few months but you can still find plenty of College World Series tickets here.
