Darin Erstad’s 2014 edition of the Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball club (21-14, 5-2 Big Ten) makes sure its fans get their money’s worth.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers (17-12, 5-5 Big Ten) warmed up their side of the scoreboard at Siebert Field with a four-run fifth inning after the Huskers put five runs on during the first stanza. Goldy’s boys would chase the Big Red on the scoreboard, evetually knotting the game at 6-6.
Nebraska put the game away with a two-run ninth inning, taking the contest 8-6. The Huskers tallied 13 hits with Michael Pritchard and Ben Miller both belting the ball for home runs marking the Big Red’s first dual-home run game of the season.
If the Huskers can win or sweep the series, they set themselves up well in-conference as they’ll next face Northwestern following visits from Kansas State and UNO. Northwestern currently sports the second-worst record in the Big Ten at 2-7.
Game two of the series starts at 2:05 PM tomorrow, a perfect opportunity to get some Nebraska sports in if you’re waiting to catch the Red-White Spring Game on BTN.
