I reacted to the Bo Pelini audio in the same way he did to fans leaving the Ohio State game in 2011. The only difference is that he thought that his conversation was private, while I knowingly voiced by opinion for all to see. I guess we all are human and make errors from time to time.
Yesterday Pelini penned a letter to Husker fans and donors where he once again expressed his sorrow for the statements made two years ago, and reiterated that those statements in no way reflected how his true feelings towards Husker Nation. I, for one, read the letter and believe that his apology is honest and sincere.
This written statement should also put to rest all conversations about the audio and Pelini’s job status. From this point forward his job performance is all that should matter. The audio and fallout from it should in no way determine his fate as the head coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The only things that should matter are improving the defense, offense, special teams, and all of the other results on the field.
Pelini still has a lot to prove in order to silence all of those who want a change in Lincoln. People have been calling for his removal due to the teams poor performances the past few seasons. Bo Pelini has the opportunity to hit the reset button on the 2013 season with a win over South Dakota State today. Then he has two weeks to fine tune his squad for the beginning of Big Ten play.
I am rooting for Pelini to get the job done, get things fixed. Everyone loves a great comeback story, myself included.
