The Nebraska Cornhuskers lead The Southern Miss Golden Eagles 49-13 after three quarters. Nebraska started the third quarter on their own 25 yard line, and quickly lost yardage on first and second down. The Huskers couldn’t recover and punted after a three and out.

Southern Miss came out hot offensively. Quickly shredding the Huskers defense. The drive showcased Nebraska missing open tackles, blown coverages, and a quick touchdown for The Golden Eagles, pulling them withing a 35-13 score.

Kenny Bell responded for the Huskers with a 63 yard kickoff return settting up Nebraska on the Golden Eagle 37 yard line. Ameer Abdullah ran for a 37 yard touchdown on the following play bringing Nebraska’s lead to 42-13.

Ciante Evans grabbed his second pick of the game and that was immidiately followed by a 26 yard touchdown pass from Taylor Martinez to Sam Burtch. Nebraska jumped out to a 49-13 lead.

Nebraska’s defense continued it’s domination of Southern Miss. The Blackshirts forced another three and out, then Nebraska fans saw Ron Kellogg III in action at quarterback for the first time this season. He handed off twice to  running back Ameer Abdullah and the Huskers quickly moved down field. After a converted fourth and short Kellogg hit Cethan carter on an eleven yard gain and Nebraska moved into Southern Miss territory. Terrell Newby killed the drive by fumbling the ball at the Southern Miss 22 yard line.

Nebraska then substituted most of it’s starting defenders to get others valuable game reps. Maleik Collins caused Aaron Bridgford to fumble but Southern Miss recovered. The second unit handled their business and after a three and out The Huskers took over the football from their 36 yard line.

Tommy Armstrong Jr. then took over the Husker offense and Nebraska started to run the option.  The Nebraska Cornhuskers entered the fourth quarter with a 49-13 lead.
