Nebraska Cornhuskers vs Wyoming Cowboys: Recipe For Tailgating Success

Every game day experience should include a great tailgating experience. It doesn’t matter if it’s outside of the stadium or at home, you have to get primed for Husker football. Tomorrow The Nebraska Corhuskers battle The Wyoming Cowboys at Memorial stadium. Your stomach should be well taken care of before kickoff, and Husker Corner is here to help.

Let’s start with the main course, a cowboy burger. There are several variations of it, but over the years I have developed my own recipe that combines spicy with savory. Here is what you will need to get started.

2lb Hamburger
1Tbsp crushed rep pepper
1 jalapeno pepper, diced
1 teaspoon seasoning salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1 onion
8 slices pepper jack cheese
1 package bacon
2 tomatoes

Combine hamburger, crushed red pepper, jalapeno, seasoning salt, and garlic salt. Mix together well. Make eight patties from mixture. Fire up the grill and throw the burgers on. Slice the tomatoes. Slice onion of choice and saute. Fry bacon. When burgers are close to being done put sauteed onion on top followed by cheese, and then add the bacon. Add tomatoes and condiments of choice and you are ready to eat.

Of course no tailgate is complete without adult beverages to wash down your food. Since The Wyoming Cowboys are our guests this week, a good whiskey is fitting. Maker’s Mark is one of my personal favorites. Here is a list of different ways to enjoy it.

A friend once told me that every tailgate should be accompanied by great music. Your playlist should match the recurring Cowboy theme of the tailgate. Mix it up a little with some classic country as well as the new stuff. None of that sappy stuff that will kill the party though. Go with something more like this. Considering the forecast for tomorrow nights game, it’s fitting.
