It’s the third week of the NFL Preseason and several former Huskers made impacts on the field helping their teams win. Lavonte David LB Tampa Bay Buccaneers recorded six tackles in a close win over the Miami Dolphins 17-16. David continues to improve his individual play and in return the Buc’s defense has improved as a unit. Detroit Lions DT Ndamukong Suh recorded 4 tackles and a QB hit, all the while stuffing New England’s rushing attempts in the first half. Offensively former Husker and current Washington Redskins RB Roy Helu continues to play well in the preseason. Helu rushed for 70 yards on 13 carries including a rushing burst that went for 17 yards. Helu was also targeted twice catching one for 21 yards. Helu’s solid play so far this season has many placing him as the no. 2 running back behind Alfred Morris.
Philadelphia Eagles PK Alex Henery continues to split the uprights at every opportunity. He was 3 for 3 with a long of 45 yards in the 31-24 win over Jacksonville. Henery continues the tradition of great Husker kickers making it at the next level.

Several former Huskers are still battling to extend their football careers by trying to make an NFL roster this season. Most will find out their status soon as the NFL teams must reduce their roster size down to 75 on Tuesday and 53 on Saturday the 31st of August. Expect an updated piece on former Huskers in the NFL around that time.
