Finally, after months of preparation and a bitter end to the 2012 season, The Nebraska Cornhuskers start their season against The Wyoming Cowboys Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.
Fall camp has given us insight into what this Nebraska team might look like. Young players will make a big impact on the defensive side of the football. A core of veterans will anchor one of the best offenses in college football. Bo Pelini will take a hammer to a cell phone during pranks at team meetings.
There is depth at almost every position, and Nebraska plans to show it off on Saturday. If you think Nebraska’s defense was bad last season, you should have seen Wyoming. The Cowboys gave up over 33 points per game and could not stop the run. Wyoming gave up an average of 232 yards rushing and 470 total yards per game in 2012.
The Husker defense will face a quality quarterback in senior Brett Smith, who threw for almost three thousand yards for the Cowboys last year. The secondary will get plenty of action this weekend. Wyoming’s run game lacks playmakers, so it will be hard to evaluate Nebraska’s run defense.
Kickoff is set for 7pm Central and can be seen on BTN.
