Taylor Martinez has never lacked confidence. When the Nebraska Cornhuskers starting quarterback was asked yesterday if he felt more confident entering his senior season he said he was.
While he was explaining his reasons for having more confidence, one line about the offensive line really struck me. Martinez said,
One of the strongest offensive lines Nebraska has ever had
Sure, that statement could be racked up to lip service. He won’t come out and say that his line is not playing well. At the same time, his confidence in the offensive line could be the biggest indication of how good the Huskers might be offensively. We already know that all of the skill positions are stacked with talent. The wide receivers are the best in The B1G Ten, Ameer Abdullah is one of the conferences best backs, and Taylor Martinez is expected to play at a high level.
Martinez is no stranger to bold statements. Last season he was talking about a BCS Championship Game before the season started. His statement about his offensive line is not quite as bold, but big nonetheless.
The offensive line’s production is the key for this offense. If they are one of the best Nebraska has had, this could be the best offense in school history. Again, we won’t really know what the offense is capable of until UCLA comes to Lincoln. The positive vibes that are being sent out by coaches and players indicates that their might be a lot to look forward to this season.
