While The Nebraska Cornhuskers are still trying to figure out who will start at linebacker in 2013, Will Compton is playing well in Washington. The former Husker helped his chances of making the Redskins roster last night, recording five tackles in the their 24 to 13 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Compton had a breakout season for Nebraska in 2012, becoming the heart of The Blackshirts by seasons end. His impact in last night’s contest showcased what the rookie linebacker is capable of at the next level.
Washington running back Roy Helu also made an impact in the win. He slammed the door on Pittsburgh with a thirty yard touchdown run with three minutes and twenty-one seconds left in the game. It was his only carry in the game. Through two preseason games Helu has rushed for 83 yards on just 14 carries, giving the back an average of 6.2 yards per carry. Helu currently leads the team in rushing.
DeJon Gomes also had a solid performance in the Redskins second preseason game of 2013. The third year safety had four tackles for Washington, which brings his total through two games of preseason play to 10. He is currently tied with Brian Keihl for the team lead.
The Washington Redskins next take on the Buffalo Bills on Saturday at FedEx Field.
