The American Volleyball Coaches Association released their preseason to 25 today, and The Nebraska Cornhuskers come in at number 10. Head coach John Cook is used to his team being elite, and this years the same will be expectations will be the same.
The Huskers will face plenty of stiff competition in conference. Nebraska is one of seven teams from The Big Ten that made the preseason rankings. The Penn State Nittany Lions are ranked at number two, and received three first place votes. The Minnesota Golden Gophers follow at number six, The Michigan Wolverines at seven, Nebraska at ten, The Michigan State Spartans at fourteen, Purdue Boilermakers at sixteen, and The Ohio State Buckeyes come in at number twenty three.
Three other preseason Top 25 teams appear on Nebraska’s schedule in 2013. The Huskers take on number one Texas on September 26th in Austin, number twenty two Dayton on September 13th at The Devaney Center, and number fifteen Iowa State on September 14th at home.
Nebraska will look to improve from their 26-7 record and regional final appearance from 2012. Coach Cook has a young squad this year. The teams five upperclassman will be expected out guide a team full of young, talented players. Youth should not be an excuse for Nebraska, as John Cook is considered one of the best coaches in the nation.
The team opens the season at The Billiken Invitational in St. Louis on August 30th against Louisiana Monroe, then battle Auburn and St. Louis on Saturday the 31st.
