One week into fall camp and one thing is certain, players seem to be on the same page as the coaching staff. With the message of unity and getting better every day being spoken by players, they have obviously had a productive week of practice.
It started with a practice that was closed to the media and was followed with another that was followed by a press conference with head coach Bo Pelini. We learned that TE Jake Long would miss a few weeks of practice, and young tight ends would get plenty of reps. It will allow the coaching staff to evaluate who will back up the senior tight end.
Redshirt Freshman Tommy Armstrong and true freshman Johnny Stanton have progressed from knee injuries and are gaining mobility. The two young QB’s look to compete with Ron Kellogg III to back up Taylor Martinez.
Junior College transfer Randy Gregory looks the part of a dominant defensive end. The expert evaluations range from Gregory being a game changer to a contributor that will not play every down. Regardless, it looks as though he will definitely see the field if his progress continues throughout fall camp.
Offensive coordinator Tim Beck is excited about his squad. The third year O.C. has given high praise to several players including freshmen running backs Adam Taylor and Terrell Newby. The duo will likely see plenty of action for Nebraska either on special teams or behind running backs Ameer Abdullah and Imani Cross.
