Husker football is almost upon us. The time of year where Husker fans find themselves dreaming of what the upcoming season holds in store for their beloved Cornhuskers. After the bitter taste 2012 left in our mouths (the blowout loss to Wisconsin in B1G Championship and loss to Georgia in The Capital One Bowl), Huskers fans are in need of a shot in the arm. 2013 has the potential to provide that.
No one can doubt the amount of talent the Cornhusker offensive attack with have in 2013. Thirty years after the infamous “Scoring Explosion” squad, this team is set up to provide plenty of fireworks themselves. Husker fans can take comfort that this is a team that can drop 30 points at will. With the offense “Taylor-made” to rack up points, it’s up to the defense to pull their weight.
The 2013 Blackshirts may worry people. On paper they are inexperienced. Yes, many seasoned starters were lost, but this squad comes in hungry to prove themselves. This may not be a lock down unit, at least not yet, but they don’t need to be right away. They need just enough effort to ensure Nebraska’s offense can outscore the opposition. This should be an attainable goal.
Nebraska has one of the easiest schedules in the Big Ten. It seems realistic that the Huskers can, at worst, be a one or two loss team. They look to be favorites for a return trip to Lucas Oil Stadium in Indy for another shot at the Big Ten Championship.
2013 has the potential to be a very exciting year for the The Nebraska Cornhuskers. With an offense that gives the opposition nightmares, a defensive squad that could surprise many, and a schedule that is easy on the eyes, this season may prove to be a groundbreaking season for Bo Pelini and the Huskers.
