Preseason Top 25 Countdown:
25- Northwestern Wildcats
24-TCU Horned Frogs
23- Oregon State Beavers
22- UCLA Bruins
21- Nebraska Cornhuskers
20- Wisconsin Badgers
19- Texas Longhorns
18- Kansas State Wildcats:
Coach: Bill Snyder
2012 Record: Overall 11-2 Big XII 8-1
Kansas State was one win away from playing for a BCS Championship in 2012. If not for a 52-24 loss to Baylor, this Kansas State team would likely have a top 10 preseason ranking.
While the Wildcats lost Heisman candidate Collin Klein to graduation, the offense has 8 starters returning from last years squad. Junior Jake Waters and sophomore Daniel Sams look to be the two contenders for the starting job at quarterback. Running back John Hubert came close to a thousand yard rushing season last year, and with Klein gone, he will likely reach the mark in 2013.
Defensively it will be a complete overhall with just two returning starters in CB Randall Evans and SS Ty Zimmerman. Last season the Kansas State defense led the Big XII in scoring defense giving up just over 22 points per game. Defensive coordinator Tom Hayes will have his work cut out for him in 2013.
2013 Outlook: Bill Snyder is one of the best college coaches of all time. While he lacks a National Championship, what he has done in both stints as head coach of the Wildcats should not be overlooked. Snyder will have his team ready to go, and while the defense might give up points, the offense will be able to match them. While The Kansas State Wildcats won’t be able to duplicate their 2012 season, they should still win 9 games in 2013.
