What To Do Until Kickoff: Play NCAA Video Games

Bruce Thorson-USA TODAY Sports

EA Sports drops NCAA 2014 this week, and it couldn’t come at a better time. It’s July, fall camp is right around the corner, and so is football season.

While we wait to watch game day action on the field, why not have some fun running our favorite teams in the virtual world. Imagine designing plays for Kenny Bell or a few misdirections with Ameer Abdullah breaking loose for an 80 yard score.

It gives you an opportunity to be Bo Pelini, or Tom Osborne if it suits you, and take control of the roster and play calling. You think Johnny Stanton or Tommy Armstrong should be the starting quarterback? Then put them in the game and see how things might look in the Huskers future.

I know gaming is not for everyone, but it does help you get through the final months before you make that pilgrimage to Memorial Stadium in Lincoln. It takes the edge off when you are looking for that football fix, that Husker action that seems to drive your sports mind 365 days a year. It’s actually fun to set your own team schedules and see how far you can take a team by recruiting prospects and trying to build a dynasty.

In any case, it’s just a suggestion to help get you by until August 31st.
