Another day closer to kickoff, and another team unveiled in our Preseason Top 25. So far we have covered a team from The Big Ten, The Big 12, and now the second team from The PAC 12.
Preseason Top 25 Countdown:
25- Northwestern Wildcats
24- TCU Horned Frogs
23- Oregon State Beavers
22- UCLA Bruins:
2012 Record: 9-5 Overall (6-3) PAC 12 South Champions
Coach: Jim Mora
The UCLA Bruins football team had major breakthroughs in Jim Mora’s first year as head coach. The team started the season with a huge win over Nebraska at home, and played for the PAC 12 Championship. While the teams success in 2012 was encouraging, they did lose the final three games.
There will be plenty of new faces in Westwood this season with several Bruins graduating. The offense returns six starters, including sophomore quarterback Brett Hundley and most of the offensive line returns as well. The bright lights will be on Jordan James, who is replacing Jonathan Franklin, who is arguable the best running back in Bruins history.
The defense returns five starters, only one of which is in the secondary. Teams might expose the young defensive backfield early in the season while the team gels together.
2013 Outlook: UCLA will be a much better team at the back end of 2013 then it will at seasons start. I do not expect them to be able to return to The PAC 12 Championship Game, but they won’t be far from it. This team is young, and while their incoming 2013 class has plenty of talent, it will take time for them to adapt to the college game.
