Preseason Top 25: Number 23 Oregon State Beavers

Husker Corners Preseason Top 25 Countdown continues. Yesterday we highlighted the number 24 team in the nation, TCU. Today we move to the Pacific Northwest to look at the second best team in Oregon.

Preseason Top 25 Countdown:

25-Northwestern  Wildcats

24- TCU Horned Frogs

23- Oregon State Beavers:

Coach: Mike Riley

2012 Record: Overall 9-4  PAC 12 6-3

Oregon State took a huge leap in the right direction in 2012 improving their win total by six games. The Beaver offense also exploded through the air, finishing second in the PAC 12 in passing yards. Many are questioning if it will be Sean Mannion or Cody Vaz behind center for Oregon State. Both quarterbacks will be more than capable of directing an offense that soared last year. Eight returning starters for the offense should help maintain last seasons success.

The Beaver defense was one of the best in the PAC 12 a year ago, and seven returning starters should help them be a force in 2013. Linebacker Michael Doctor will be the leader of Oregon State’s defense, and the unit as a whole should be one of the best in the PAC 12.

2013 Outlook:

With the high octane passing attack and weapons like Brandin Cooks, Oregon State will be able to put points on the board. With only the D line being a question on defense, this Beavers team looks like it will stay on par to their 2012 results. Expect Oregon state to finish third in the PAC 12 North division for the second straight year.
