After routing Nebraska 70-31 in the 2nd ever Big 10 Championship Game, Wisconsin Head Coach Bret Bielema will be the next head coach at Arkansas. Rumor had it that the Razorbacks were interested in Nebraska Head Coach, Bo Pelini before Saturday’s championship matchup. Bielema will stick around to coach the Badgers in their third straight Rose Bowl appearance.
Bielema is not the only coaching change hitting the Big 10. On November 25 Purdue fired Head Coach Danny Hope after a 6-6 season. On Tuesday night the Boilermakers have been rumored to hire Kent State Head Coach, Darrell Hazell. The Golden Flashes finished the season 11-2 season, and will appear in their first bowl game since 1972. Hazell was an assistant coach at Ohio State under former Buckeye head coach Jim Tressel.
There still is no word on who will take the head coaching job at Wisconsin. Former Wisconsin Offensive Coordinator Paul Chryst, who is the current Pitt Head Coach, is the popular choice among Badger fans. Chryst has come out and publicly said he is firmly committed to Pitt football.
In coaching news outside the Big 10, Arkansas State head coach Gus Malzahn will be the new Head Coach at Auburn. Malzahn was the Offensive Coordinator at Auburn in 2010 when the Tigers won the National Championship. Malzahn and the Red Wolves finished the 2012 season 9-3.
Alabama gave Defensive Coordinator Kirby Smart a raise to insure his stay with the Crimson Tide.
Tennessee has turned their intention to Louisville Head Coach Charlie Strong. Strong led the Cardinals to a 10-2 season, and a Big East Championship. Louisville is set to take on Florida in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 2.
Boston College has hired Temple Head Coach, Steve Addazio. Addazio’s record at Temple is not flawless by any means. The Owl’s went 4-8 in 2012. He was the Offensive Coordinator at Florida from 2009-2010.
