Tom Osborne To Step Down As The University of Nebraska's AD

Nebraska Chancellor, Harvey Peralman announced Wednesday, that Nebraska Athletic Director, Tom Osborne would be stepping down from his position, at the end of this year. Osborne, 75, has been the AD in Lincoln since 2007. When he took the job, he said that the job was only temporary, and he did not plan on being at the head of the Nebraska athletic offices too long.

On January 1, 2013 Osborne will step down as AD, but will take the position as Athletic Director Emeritus. He will continue to be involved with the Athletic Department through July 30, 2013.

Osborne plans to try to make the transition as smooth as possible. He stated that there are no health issues that cause this decision. He said that he actually feels more healthy today, then he did when he was in Congress.

No successor to Osborne has been named, but Peralmen did say he would like to get someone named in a timely mannor. He said he has a council of about 15 people that are going to help him make his decision.
