Huskers in the NFL Draft (Late Rounds)

The 2012 NFL Draft begins Thursday with the first round, followed by subsequent rounds Friday and Saturday. Husker Corner breaks down the likely rounds former Huskers will be drafted. Now we look at potential mid-to-late round selections.

  • Marcel Jones – OT
Jones has always been a guy with big potential. His huge frame and good mix of strength and footwork are ideal tools to work with. His biggest problem, however, has been health. Teams will be afraid to take a chance on Jones, who missed a number of games for the Huskers. He never quite realized his potential at the college level because of injuries. As a result, he figures as a sixth- or seventh-round draft pick by a team that thinks they can mold him into a top reserve right tackle.
    Projection: Late 6th Round
  • Mike Caputo – OC
Caputo is an underdog, but he thrives in that role. His height has always worked against him, and he wasn’t projected as a starter at Nebraska. However, he built up his strength and played smart football, earning him playing time. If he can prove that he can continue to grow, then teams will be willing to give Caputo a chance in one of the draft’s late rounds. Look for Caputo to go in the seventh round, or perhaps sign as an undrafted free agent.
    Projection: Late 7th Round
  • Brandon Kinnie – WR
Kinnie is a hard guy to judge. At Nebraska, his consistency issues continually brought him down. However, at times he showed that he can be a big physical wide out who can throw a block and still have the speed to make big plays. A one-on-one workout with New England’s Bill Belichick and a workout in his hometown of Kansas City provide him with a few potential suitors. Also, look for Carolina and Jacksonville to give Kinnie a look in the final round of the draft.
    Projection: Late 7th Round
