It’s official: Terry Joseph is Nebraska’s new secondary coach.
The Huskers officially announced the hiring of Joseph Wednesday after speculation that the 38-year-old Joseph had been offered the job.
Joseph spent the past two seasons under coach Derek Dooley as Tennessee’s secondary coach. Before Tennessee, Joseph worked with Dooley at Louisiana Tech for three seasons, earning a No. 4 ranking among the best recruiters at non-BCS schools in 2009, according to Rivals.com.
Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini and defensive coordinator John Papuchis both worked with Joseph at LSU in 2006 when Pelini was the team’s defensive coordinator.
“Coming to a place like Nebraska was a great opportunity for me,” Joseph said in a statement. “And then to throw in the chance to work with Bo again, it was the perfect fit. I am excited to get to work with our players and other coaches as we start spring ball and get prepared for the season.”
Joseph, like Raymond, has a strong rapport with Nebraska’s coaches, in addition to his strong recruiting ties.
“Terry Joseph is a tremendous addition to our staff,” Pelini said. “I have worked with him in the past and he is about as perfect of a fit as you can have. He is a good football coach, a great person and will bring a lot to our staff.”
Papuchis is believed to have played a big role in landing Joseph, as he stayed in contact with Joseph since the two worked as assistants under Pelini at LSU.
Joseph inherits a secondary that is without Alfonzo Dennard and Austin Cassidy, but returns nine players with starting experience from 2011. He is expected to be with Nebraska when the team begins spring practices this week.
