Nebraska had the game locked up.
The No. 21 Huskers (16-3, 5-2 Big Ten) came in to Iowa City and smashed the Hawkeyes (11-9, 3-4) in the first half, nearly doubling Iowa with a 30-17 halftime lead.
Then the Hawkeyes came storming back.
An 11-0 run over a three and a half minute span in the second half left the Hawkeyes with only a two point deficit to make up.
The closest they would get was one point away.
After a Hawkeye free throw made it a 52-51 game with 3:11 left to play, the Huskers posted six unanswered points and held on for a 60-53 victory.
The story of the first half was the 16-1 run the Huskers made to establish a huge lead. The run that held
the Hawkeyes to one point lasted nearly nine minutes.
Nebraska’s season-leading scorer Jordan Hooper led all scorers with 22 points and added 15 of Nebraska’s 35 rebounds. The only other Husker in double figures was Lindsey Moore, who scored 15 points, adding 4 steals.
Iowa’s three scorers in double figures weren’t quite enough to take down the Huskers, as their 20 turnovers plagued them all night.
The Huskers play again Sunday at noon in Champagne, Illinois, as they take on 6-14 Illinois.
