Nebraska-Colorado Preview

Cody Green gets the nod at quarterback for Nebraska today. I draw two conclusions from that news that I hope to be accurate.

I hope that Taylor Martinez is missing this game purely due to injury, and it has nothing to do with all the fireworks from last week’s game and the incidents following. I don’t know if we’d get the true story if that were the case, so lets hope everything is good there. Nebraska is a top ranked team for the next three years with T-Mart under the helm.

The second conclusion will sound a lot like the first, but is more question-filled. Why no Zac Lee? He was also out with an injury a few weeks ago, so it’s possible that he has yet to regain full health. But, following the game Pelini said that The Wildman was available to play last week against Texas A&M.

If Lee is healthy for this game, he must get the nod over Cody Green. Green is a mediocre passer, but despite holding the advantage in pure speed, isn’t nearly the runner that Lee is. Not only that, but his noodle-like arms are good for a few fumbles a game. But, Bo Pelini has made his decision, and I trust Bo.

This game will definitely define Cody Green’s legacy at Nebraska though. Win, and Husker Nation will begin to accept him. Lose, and I’d almost be surprised to find Green on the roster next year. This game means that much.

Nebraska Cornhuskers vs. Colorado Buffaloes

(More…………….)

Game facts:

  • Time: 2:30 PM on ABC
  • Where: Memorial Stadium – Lincoln, Nebraska
  • Spread: Nebraska -17.5 (that’s insane)
  • This stands as the final Big 12 regular season game ever for the Nebraska Cornhuskers
  • Ndamukong Suh’s #93 jersey will be retired in a pregame ceremony

3 Keys to Victory (told through vintage NFL mottos):

  1. Steel Curtain- Nebraska needs to win this game on defense, which has been playing at its highest level all season the last few games. The Blackshirts have harassed opposing quarterbacks, and deploy a professional secondary behind them. The only weak spot has been the run defense. I expect the Blackshirts to come out flying to the ball today, and make the QB indecision a non-factor.
  2. Marty Ball- Run the ball. Control the clock. Don’t turn it over. This is how I was born and raised. With the offense’s two most explosive players out due to injury, a grind it out offense might be in order today (another reason Lee would’ve made sense- ran this offense all 2009). As long as the offense doesn’t turn the ball over, Nebraska should be fine today.
  3. Just Win, Baby!- This season goes down as an overwhelming failure with a loss today. These 2010 Huskers have had one goal, and one goal only, on their collective minds: Win the Big 12 Championship. Throw away everything that has happened up to this point with this game. Pull out all the stops, and leave it all on the field, because we could be in for a dog fight today.

Prediction: Nebraska 16, Colorado 10
